How to apply Birth Certificate in Maharashtra

Birth certificate in Maharashtra can be applied at 2 levels. One is rural and other is at urban level.

In urban area, certificate is issued by Municipal Corporation/Municipal Council. You need to apply through proper standardized birth certificate application form with appropriate court fee stamping to concerned office (municipality office around your area).

In rural area, certificate is issued by Tehsildar of your area and you can apply using simple plain paper (just write in application form including basic details about child like birth place, time of birth, name, weight etc). You can submit the application form at Gram Panchayat Office (GPO).

You can get Maharashtra Birth Application form from the respective office in urban and rural areas. Although no particular set of documents is mentioned by any authority (it varies state to state so no one can be sure about it) however please carry basic certificates like marriage certificate of parents, birth registration by hospital (in case the delivery is done in hospital), ID proof and residential proof of the parents.

Normal processing fee around Rs. 5 will be charged for the applications processed within first 21 days of the birth (it can be free of cost even).
As far as the birth certificate application status or status tracking is concerned then you can directly get in touch with official bodies. In general cases, birth certificate is issued within 7 working days of submitting the application form. In case you do not receive your birth certificate within stipulated time then you can visit the registration center and can ask for the road blocks.

You can collect it from birth certificate office or same can be delivered at your address (in this case you will have to attach postal card with proper stamps along with the application form).
